About EVIHDAF
EVIHDAF, an international research and development non-profit based in Yaoundé, Cameroon, serves the West and Central Africa region. Our multidisciplinary team of English and French-speaking researchers combines innovative thinking and rigorous approaches to address global challenges at the local level. We also collaborate with regional and global consultants, including those affiliated with universities. In addition to our headquarters, we have a USAID-funded project office in Niamey, Niger, and a Data Unit satellite office in Parakou, Benin.
EVIHDAF offers comprehensive services in research, monitoring, evaluation, and learning (RMEL); data analytics and survey research; research capacity strengthening; and social and behavior change (SBC) research. Our key focus areas encompass reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health (RMNCAH); maternal, infant, and young child nutrition (MIYCN); malaria and infectious diseases; humanitarian/vulnerable contexts; and support to service delivery.
Position Overview
In anticipation of a USAID-funded Regional Implementation Science Research for Improved Sexual and Reproductive Health (ISR-SRH) project in West and Central Africa, we are seeking an experienced Senior Manager/Director, Communications & Stakeholder Engagement. This individual will spearhead the development and execution of the project’s communications strategies and foster engagement with a diverse group of stakeholders at national, regional, and global levels. The goal is to generate evidence, translate findings into action, and ultimately improve sexual and reproductive health outcomes in the region. The Senior Manager/Director will also oversee EVIHDAF’s Corporate Communications team. This position demands flexibility, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. It will involve both local and international travel.
Roles and Responsibilities
Stakeholder Engagement
- Design and implement stakeholder engagement strategies across national, regional, and global levels to support the design, implementation, and evaluation of ISR-SRH activities, and the generation of evidence and learning
- Develop a program of initiatives to raise the profile of the ISR-SRH brand, secure partnerships, and identify opportunities for growth and expansion
- Proactively seek out opportunities to increase brand awareness and recognition
- Manage a program of internal stakeholder activities within the ISR-SRH partner consortium to maintain strong engagement and awareness of project activities
Communications
- Oversee the development and execution of a communications strategy to support ISR-SRH project implementation and messaging to key stakeholders
- Supervise the regular collection of content for a project newsletter, and manage its production and dissemination
- Ensure and uphold quality control for all internal and external electronic communications and publications
- Identify media and PR opportunities, cultivate and maintain positive relationships with relevant media outlets, and manage media relations
- Oversee the development and implementation of a digital and social media strategy to guarantee communication mediums remain current and relevant to the target audience
- Advise management on new projects and initiatives—including those in new geographical areas of operation—to ensure stakeholder engagement and communication plans are integrated into business planning activities
Project-wide Support
- Contribute to project deliverables, such as annual work plans and programmatic reports
- Supervise logistics and organization for all project events, and serve as facilitator at some of these events
- Collaborate with the research team to develop graphics, maps, flow charts, and diagrams for reports, presentations, and handouts
Essential Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as international development, communications, journalism, community development, or a similar area is necessary. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- At least 8-10 years of experience in designing, managing, and executing activities to share the results of development projects and involve partners in these endeavors or development aid.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, along with the ability to seamlessly organize meetings and lead discussions with large groups.
- Superior writing abilities in both French and English, and proficiency in using advanced computer software for word processing.
- The capacity to handle politically delicate topics and situations while maintaining positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders throughout West and Central Africa.
- A proven aptitude for strategic thinking and clear communication with both partners and colleagues.
- Demonstrated experience in event management and the capability to juggle multiple tasks and manage diverse groups of people under pressure.
- The ability to influence, inspire, and work effectively with others.
