Applications are now open for the Special Scholarship Program (SSP) at Kochi University of Technology (KUT) for the 2026 academic year. Scholarship Benefits
The SSP scholarship provides comprehensive financial support for a period of three consecutive years, including:
- Full exemption from examination fees (JPY 15,000), enrollment fees (JPY 300,000), and tuition fees (JPY 535,800 per year)
- A monthly stipend of JPY 150,000 to cover living expenses throughout the scholarship period
- An additional allowance of JPY 150,000 for travel and initial living expenses for scholarship recipients arriving from outside Japan

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Secure prior approval from a research supervisor participating in the SSP program
- Hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) following at least 18 years of formal education, or be expected to obtain the degree before the start date of the scholarship at KUT
- Be 35 years old or younger at the time of enrollment
- Demonstrate excellent proficiency in English to ensure full participation in the program
Application Process
The application process for this scholarship involves several steps:

Submit a preliminary application online, selecting up to two potential supervisors via the dedicated SSP application form

Obtain approval from a supervisor, which is a mandatory condition for proceeding to the formal application stage

Send by postal mail all required documents for evaluation, including academic transcripts, diplomas, a detailed research plan, and a copy of the Master’s thesis

Participate in an interview and a specialized examination, usually conducted online, as part of the scholarship selection process
