Cameroon Program Overview

CHAI began its operations in Cameroon in 2007 with a primary focus on enhancing access to HIV diagnosis, care, and treatment. Our efforts have expanded to address other key public health challenges, including:

  • Strengthening HIV laboratory systems to improve diagnosis.
  • Enhancing access to pediatric and second-line antiretroviral treatments.
  • Supporting the rollout of universal health coverage across Cameroon.

Beyond HIV, CHAI is driving initiatives to improve health infrastructure through:

  • Enhancing the health product supply chain, ensuring the delivery of life-saving vaccines and cold chain equipment.
  • Introducing innovative point-of-care technologies to ensure rapid diagnosis and treatment.
  • Supporting maternal and infant health by mentoring healthcare workers and facilitating access to long-acting contraceptives and new vaccines for conditions like HPV, rotavirus, and polio.

Our collaboration with the government of Cameroon extends further to:

  • Improving access to medical oxygen and decentralizing COVID-19 testing.
  • Increasing access to cancer treatment by making chemotherapy more affordable and accessible.
  • Supporting the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) by leveraging data and analytics to enhance decision-making processes in health planning and operations.

CHAI is also partnering with the Ministry of Public Health and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to strengthen clinical research in Cameroon and across Africa. Together, we aim to promote informed, high-quality clinical trials that benefit the continent’s healthcare ecosystem.

Overview of the Role

CHAI Cameroon is seeking a motivated and experienced Driver to support our country program teams and assist in daily administrative operations. We are looking for a reliable and hardworking professional who can handle multiple office support tasks while maintaining a high level of diligence under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of driving regulations, chauffeur protocols, local routes, and security issues.
  • Provide transportation services for staff, visitors, and goods, adhering to assigned routes and schedules.
  • Conduct routine vehicle inspections and ensure the vehicle’s systems function correctly, reporting any issues immediately.
  • Follow safety standards and ensure the use of safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, life jackets, etc.).
  • Keep accurate records of mileage, fuel consumption, and other vehicle-related information.
  • Maintain logs for insurance renewals, vehicle maintenance, and roadworthiness.
  • Ensure the vehicle is kept clean and well-maintained both inside and out.
  • Effectively use email, telephone, and other communication tools when necessary.
  • Perform additional tasks assigned by the supervisor or management.

Candidate Requirements

  • Must hold a valid Category B driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • At least 3 years of professional driving experience, preferably in a similar organization.
  • Strong knowledge of local traffic rules and regulations.
  • Familiarity with the city of Yaoundé and surrounding areas is essential.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to ensure timely adherence to schedules.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and handle responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Physically fit and capable of lifting and carrying heavy objects when required.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • Possession of a First School Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualification is preferred.

Role Summary: Finance Intern

We are looking for a detail-oriented and highly motivated Finance Intern to support our finance team. The intern will be involved in processing payments, managing invoice verifications, and organizing archived documents, contributing directly to the operational success of CHAI’s financial operations. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a global NGO environment, ideal for individuals seeking to launch their career in finance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in processing payments for invoices, utilizing mobile money platforms.
  • Review and verify invoices for accuracy, ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Organize and scan archived financial documents for easy access and future reference.
  • Maintain and update accurate financial records in collaboration with the finance team.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure timely payment processing.
  • Support the preparation of financial reports and summaries as needed.
  • Perform other finance-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • A recent degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field, with at least one year of experience in an international NGO setting.
  • Proven experience with mobile money platforms for payment processing.
  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Ability to scan and manage documents efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in French is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
