Call for Volunteer Tutors (Teaching Assistants) at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) Cameroon

AIMS Cameroon is seeking enthusiastic individuals with backgrounds in mathematical sciences.

AIMS Cameroon, a leading center for postgraduate education in the quantitative sciences, is seeking highly motivated individuals with a strong background in mathematical sciences to volunteer as tutors (teaching assistants) for the 2024-2025 academic year.

About AIMS

The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) is a pan-African network of centers of excellence dedicated to preparing talented African graduates for careers in research, industry, and government. The AIMS model is based on a unique, intensive 10-month postgraduate program that provides students with a solid foundation in mathematical sciences and equips them with the skills and knowledge needed to tackle Africa’s most pressing challenges.

Applicants should showcase their experience in teaching university-level mathematics or related fields, including grading and delivering constructive feedback. They should also demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with competence in administration and time management.

Working as a tutor at an AIMS center offers a unique chance to collaborate closely with distinguished scientists from across the globe. These centers attract top educators worldwide to teach a comprehensive one-year Master’s program in mathematical sciences, designed to prepare students for advanced postgraduate research. The program adopts cutting-edge pedagogical approaches to foster critical and creative thinking. This role presents an exceptional opportunity for tutors to gain valuable teaching experience in higher education, particularly since there is currently no formal preparation for higher education instructors globally.

AIMS Cameroon covers expenses such as travel, visas, accommodations, and meals for tutors, who will also receive a monthly stipend.

To apply, candidates should email their CV, along with a statement of no more than 500 words, outlining their suitability for the position to the AIMS-Cameroon academic team at academia-ml@aims-cameroon.org. In the statement, applicants should specify their availability and provide examples illustrating why they are well-suited for the role based on their background and qualifications.
