Barry Callebaut is recruiting to support the needs of its operations and is currently seeking a Senior Buyer – Indirect Spend to join its team in Douala.

About the Role

The Senior Buyer – Indirect Spend is responsible for managing procurement activities across a wide range of indirect categories, including CAPEX, MRO, energy, facility management, laboratory consumables, equipment and services, as well as general administrative spend.
This position forms part of the local plant’s Purchasing Department and contributes actively to the global Purchasing Organization.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing

• Analyze spend data and budgets to define and execute sourcing strategies that deliver optimal Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
• Develop and implement category strategies that drive cost efficiency and long-term value.
• Manage spot buys and oversee the PR-to-PO process cycle.

Contract Management

• Conduct contract reviews, identify improvement areas, and implement agreed action plans.
• Ensure timely execution of approved contracts and maintain accurate documentation.

Stakeholder Management

• Partner with internal stakeholders to align business objectives with procurement strategies.
• Act as a trusted advisor to ensure purchasing delivers measurable business impact.

Supplier Relationship Management

• Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure quality, service reliability, and cost competitiveness.
• Monitor supplier performance and lead regular performance reviews.

Reporting & Compliance

• Prepare and deliver regular and ad-hoc purchasing reports.
• Ensure compliance with corporate purchasing policies and maintain proper documentation and controls.

About You

Education & Professional Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Administration, or Economics.
• A professional procurement certification (e.g., CIPS, ISM, etc.) is a strong advantage.

Experience & Technical Expertise

• 5–10 years of experience in indirect procurement, ideally within the food, pharmaceutical, or chemical industries.
• Proficiency in IT systems, particularly SAP and Maximo.
• Strong command of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
