This position is based in Yaoundé and reports to the Administrative Associate – Fleet Management.

Position: Transport Coordinator/Driver

The role involves providing safe, reliable transportation services to senior World Food Programme (WFP) staff, high-ranking UN officials, and visitors, while also coordinating transport-related services, vehicle maintenance, and repairs.

Key Responsibilities (Not Exhaustive):

  • Safely transport senior WFP staff, UN officials, and visitors while facilitating basic conversation translation between local languages and English. Ensure all routes follow authorized protocols, adhering to UN safety and security regulations.
  • Oversee routine and ad hoc maintenance and repairs of WFP vehicles and related transport equipment, following manufacturer standards and adhering to WFP safety procedures.
  • Conduct regular inspections of vehicles, generators, and other transport equipment using diagnostic tools and computerized workshop equipment to ensure compliance with safety and technical standards.
  • Provide vehicle recovery and repair services for broken-down WFP vehicles, particularly during field missions, minimizing further damage and ensuring safe operations.
  • Install and maintain advanced equipment, such as VHS radios, satellite tracking systems, and other communication tools, to enhance operational efficiency and communication capabilities.
  • Accurately report all mechanical work completed, including any failures encountered during repairs, to facilitate informed decision-making and planning.
  • Maintain all repair tools and equipment in proper working order to ensure a safe, clean, and healthy work environment.
  • Offer technical guidance and training to Drivers to enhance their skills and capacity.
  • Plan and assign driving routes and schedules for other Drivers, ensuring efficient transportation services for clients.
  • Meet and assist official personnel and visitors at airports or entry points, providing support with visa and customs formalities to ensure a smooth and secure arrival at designated locations.
  • Accurately maintain vehicle logbooks and report daily on the mechanical status of vehicles, optimizing fuel consumption and cost-efficiency.
  • Coordinate vehicle maintenance schedules to ensure that WFP vehicles are equipped with the necessary travel authorizations and that all equipment on board is in good condition.
  • Follow established protocols for field deliveries and report any incidents or issues promptly to supervisors to facilitate quick decision-making and problem resolution.
  • Perform basic office tasks such as filing, photocopying, and maintaining office supplies, including handling mail services and payment of bills, to provide additional administrative support when needed.
