New Opportunity for Young African Leaders: 8th Edition of the Global Citizen Scholarship
Following the success of previous editions of the Global Citizen Scholarship Program, the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens (BKMC) is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the 8th edition of this prestigious scholarship.
This initiative aims to empower young Africans who are actively engaged in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing them with the resources to make a tangible impact within their communities.
About the Ban Ki-moon Centre’s Global Citizen Scholarship
The Global Citizen Scholarship is a fully virtual program designed to support young African leaders in the development and implementation of a Micro SDG Project—a locally driven initiative aligned with the SDGs, aiming for sustainable and meaningful impact.
Selected participants will have the opportunity to:
- Take part in a Summer School organized by Management Center Innsbruck (MCI) University
- Attend specialized workshops and training sessions delivered by experts
- Benefit from peer-to-peer mentorship for personalized guidance
- Receive $500 in funding to bring their project to life
- Obtain a Certificate of Completion signed by H.E. Ban Ki-moon and H.E. Dr. Heinz Fischer
2025 Program – Key Information
- Launch: April 2025
- Duration: 8 to 9 months
- Selected Participants:
- 14 young African leaders
- 3 MCI students
- Total: 17 changemakers
Scholarship recipients will deepen their understanding of the 2030 Agenda and SDGs, develop skills in entrepreneurship and innovation for sustainable development, and expand their professional network.

Ban Ki-moon Centre Scholarship 2025: Opportunities & Eligibility Criteria
Program Benefits
This scholarship fully covers the following expenses:
- Participation in a two-week Summer School at MCI University
- Specialized training and workshops, fully funded
- Personalized mentorship focused on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- A $500 grant to implement an SDG-related project
- Certificate of Completion signed by Ban Ki-moon and Dr. Heinz Fischer
Eligibility Criteria for the Global Citizen Scholarship
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a young African, regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation
- Hold the nationality of an African country
- Be between 20 and 35 years old at the time of application
- Have at least a Master’s degree (students who have completed their first year of a Master’s program may be considered in exceptional cases)
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to the SDGs and global citizenship
- Have a minimum B2 level in English, based on European language standards
This program is designed for young African leaders dedicated to high-impact social and environmental initiatives through concrete projects.

- Portrait photo (formats: JPEG or PNG)
- Introduction video (max. 30 seconds, formats: MP4 or MOV)
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Detailed project plan related to the SDGs
