Remote Opportunity – UN Seeks Graphic Designer to Amplify Humanitarian Messages

Job Summary

The Design and Multimedia Unit (DMU) of the Strategic Communications Branch (SCB) at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is recruiting a skilled Graphic Designer to join his team. This remote role focuses on creating compelling visual content to amplify humanitarian messages, enhance OCHA’s outreach efforts, and promote understanding of complex issues crucial for effective emergency response.

About OCHA

OCHA serves as the coordinating body within the United Nations Secretariat for humanitarian activities, ensuring a cohesive response to crises worldwide. Our mandate is to mobilize and coordinate effective humanitarian action in collaboration with national and international partners, advocating for the rights of those in need, promoting preparedness and prevention measures, and facilitating sustainable solutions.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Develop Compelling Visual Content: Create impactful infographics, posters, brochures, and other materials to effectively convey humanitarian messages to diverse audiences.
  2. Design Interactive Websites and Animations: Utilize graphic design expertise to craft engaging websites and animations that inform users about humanitarian issues and OCHA’s initiatives.

Contribution to Information Management and Visualization

  1. Collaborate on Information Projects: Work with interdisciplinary teams to translate data and complex concepts into accessible visual formats.
  2. Shape Visual Communication Strategy: Aid in defining and executing visual communication strategies that align with OCHA’s objectives.

Ensuring Brand Consistency

  1. Maintain Visual Identity: Ensure all visual assets adhere to OCHA’s branding guidelines to reinforce its visual identity.

Staying Current with Design Trends

  1. Research and Implement Trends: Continuously explore and integrate the latest design trends and technologies into OCHA’s visual communication efforts.

Qualifications

  1. Educational Background: Possess an advanced university degree in graphic design, multimedia design, communications, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be considered.
  2. Professional Experience: Demonstrate a minimum of 5 years of experience in graphic design, information and communication technology, multimedia design, or related fields. Proficiency in Adobe Software applications is essential.
  3. Portfolio Submission: Provide a portfolio showcasing examples of graphic design work.
  4. Language Skills: Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory, with proficiency in French considered advantageous.

Desirable Skills

  1. Familiarity with the Humanitarian Programme Cycle (HPC) process.
  2. Previous exposure to graphic design and data analysis within the UN Common System or similar international entities.

Duration and Location

  1. Duration: May 1 – December 31, 2024
  2. Location: Remote position, with a specific emphasis on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
