The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Cameroon is seeking a Consultant to conduct mapping of the stakeholders involved in the restoration of the TRIDOM Cameroon forest landscape.

Le WWF Cameroun recherche un Consultant pour réaliser la cartographie des acteurs impliqués dans la restauration du paysage forestier de TRIDOM Cameroun.

Are you eager to contribute positively to the future of humanity and our shared planet, Earth? Joining WWF could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity:

Across the globe, individuals are becoming increasingly aware of the escalating crisis of biodiversity loss. There’s a growing recognition that nature serves as our life-support system, and the repercussions of its decline will affect everyone. At WWF, we’re actively addressing this formidable global challenge. Our team members hail from diverse backgrounds and possess a wide array of skills, spanning from human resources and finance to advocacy and conservation science. We encourage applications from individuals who believe they can aid us in building a brighter future for both people and wildlife.

What we do:

We are an independent conservation organization dedicated to preserving the natural world for the benefit of both people and wildlife. Our efforts span from individuals and local communities to businesses and governmental bodies. We are actively involved in a growing coalition urging global leaders to commit to restoring nature by 2030. Together, our goal is to safeguard and rejuvenate natural habitats, halt the alarming rate of wildlife extinction, and promote sustainable methods of production and consumption.

We are currently seeking a Consultant to conduct an in-depth mapping of the various stakeholders engaged in the restoration of the TRIDOM Cameroon forest landscape.

Context and rationale:

In response to the rapid degradation of forests and land, the international community has initiated numerous endeavors to reverse these trends. Examples include the Bonn Challenge and the AFR100 Initiative, both of which advocate for forest landscape restoration as a crucial strategy for bolstering economies, enhancing resilience against climate shocks, and mitigating climate change. Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) extends beyond mere tree planting; it entails the comprehensive restoration of an entire landscape. FLR is defined as a process aimed at reclaiming ecological functionality and improving human well-being in areas that have been deforested or degraded. It serves as a means to restore, enhance, and sustain vital ecological and social functions, ultimately fostering more resilient and sustainable landscapes over the long term.

Recognizing the multifaceted environmental, social, and economic challenges posed by forest landscape degradation, WWF launched the African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative in 2021. This initiative unites nine African offices in collaboration with governments, local and regional partners, indigenous peoples, local communities, and the private sector. Together, they aim to elevate the importance of forest restoration and accelerate the implementation of commitments made under the African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative (AFR100).

The initiative aims to align and, where feasible, fuse the efforts of governmental bodies and other stakeholders, not only to promote a national dialogue portraying forest restoration as an economic, political, and social remedy to the current crisis of deforestation but also to advocate for financial investments and governance reforms while fostering innovation to facilitate large-scale landscape rehabilitation.

The WWF Initiative envisions facilitating equitable and efficient implementation in areas with degraded forest landscapes, mosaic ecosystems, and other depleted terrains to reach a restoration objective of no less than 13.5 million hectares, or 35% of the AFR 100 commitments, by 2027. This objective should be perceived not in isolation but as bolstering the execution of ongoing initiatives by various stakeholders, encompassing governmental bodies, indigenous communities, local inhabitants, the corporate sector, and civil society.

As a component of the endeavors to revive degraded forest landscapes, WWF proposes enlisting the expertise of a consultant to conduct a survey concerning the identification of restoration stakeholders within the TRIDOM landscape.
