Statement of Work

Position: 3 Part-Time Drivers

Supervisor: Motor Pool Coordinator

Location: Yaoundé, Cameroon

Commencement Date: March 11, 2024

Closure Date: March 25, 2024

Peace Corps Cameroon is seeking to fill three positions for Part-Time Drivers. These individuals will serve as backup drivers during busy periods in a dynamic office environment. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and the ability to multitask efficiently with minimal supervision. Collaboration and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service are essential. Please note that this temporary role does not include benefits such as severance pay, retirement plans, medical coverage, or leave entitlements.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Motor Pool Coordinator, the Part-Time Driver will be responsible for vehicle operation, documentation management, and maintenance oversight. They will assume full accountability for the vehicles under their care.

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Vehicle Operation
  • Drive Peace Corps vehicles, staff, and volunteers as instructed by the Director of Management and Operations (DMO), General Service Manager (GSM), or Motor Pool Coordinator (MPC).
  • Occasionally undertake long trips as necessary.
  • Receive assignments from the Motor Pool Coordinator or as directed by the GSM.
  • Maintain assigned vehicle cleanliness and presentable condition consistently.
  • Keep track of vehicle operation records (vehicle log) for daily point-to-point trips.
  • Report any suspicious individuals or incidents to the Motor Pool Coordinator, GSM, or DMO.
  • Conduct daily vehicle checks and report any irregularities to the Motor Pool Coordinator and GSM.
  • Seek guidance from the Motor Pool Coordinator when necessary.
  • Adhere to the work week schedule during Pre-Service Training (PST) from Monday to Saturday, and Non-PST from Monday to Friday.
  1. Safety and Security
  • SSI 110 Standard Security Requirements:
      • Ensure safe operation of Peace Corps vehicles at all times.
      • Promptly communicate any safety or security concerns regarding volunteers to the Safety and Security Manager (SSM) and Country Director (CD).
      • Demonstrate familiarity with and support for Peace Corps safety and security policies and procedures, including timely reporting of suspicious incidents, individuals, or items.

  • Vehicle Operation Guidelines
  • Contractors must operate US government-owned, leased, or rented vehicles (GOVs) safely and solely for official business purposes, as outlined in 31 USC 1334.
  • Contractors are advised to refrain from texting or engaging in any activity that diverts attention from safe driving practices. Except in emergency situations, contractors are prohibited from:
      • Text messaging while operating a GOV.
      • Texting while driving a privately-owned vehicle (POV) during official government business.
      • Using government-supplied electronic equipment while driving any vehicle, even during off-duty hours.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Education: Completion of primary education.
  2. Prior Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a driver/chauffeur with a commendable driving record.
  • Possession of Category B Driving License.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with local traffic regulations and national routes.
  • Proven understanding of vehicle maintenance and adherence to safe driving protocols.

Language Proficiency: Proficiency in written and spoken English or French, with a working understanding of the other language at the least.

  1. Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:
  • Strong organizational aptitude, meticulous attention to detail, and adept presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in multitasking and prioritization of tasks.
  • Competence in computer operations including MS Word, Excel, etc.
  • Ability to function effectively both independently and within a team, displaying proactive initiative.
  • Availability to adhere to a regular Monday through Friday schedule, with readiness for impromptu weekend duties and rural travel as required.
