New Consultancy Recruitment & Non-Staff Workflow: Empowering UNICEF’s Mission in Cameroon.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is recruiting a New Consultancy Recruitment & Non-Staff Workflow
UNICEF operates in some of the most challenging environments worldwide, striving to reach and uplift the world’s most disadvantaged children. Our mission is clear: to protect children’s rights, save lives, and help them reach their full potential.
A Global Commitment to Every Child
With a presence across 190 countries and territories, UNICEF advocates relentlessly for every child, everywhere, every day, creating a foundation for a brighter, more equitable world.
Our Ongoing Mission in Cameroon
Since 1975, UNICEF has been working in Cameroon, partnering with national authorities to improve children’s rights and ensure their well-being across critical areas: health, nutrition, education, protection, water, and sanitation. For a comprehensive overview, refer to the Country Programme Document (CPD).
While our programs receive support from institutional and private donors, current financial resources fall short of our objectives. Specifically, our Humanitarian Appeal is only 25% funded, and overall program funding is at 52%. Raising additional funds is a critical priority for UNICEF in Cameroon, with a focus on increasing budgets from existing donors and securing new funding, especially from the private sector.
Resource Mobilization and Strategic Communication
To drive resource mobilization, the Chief of Communication, Advocacy, and Partnerships (PAC) oversees these efforts alongside a dedicated National Officer. UNICEF’s programs also contribute significantly by crafting tailored proposals and reports that communicate our impact and financial needs effectively.
Creating Engaging Donor Briefings
To maximize fundraising opportunities, UNICEF Cameroon is developing a set of briefing notes that are clear, concise, and visually engaging, with accurate data that allows for a swift response to funding prospects. These briefing notes will feature:
- Itemized costs (per child, per unit)
- Images, infographics, and maps to illustrate our programs’ impact
How You Can Make a Difference as a Consultant
In this consultancy role, you will collaborate closely with a graphic designer to create a high-quality, standardized template for donor briefings. Your responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing and analyzing existing documentation provided by PAC and section chiefs
- Developing a standard briefing template with the designer, ensuring consistency and visual appeal
- Identifying and emphasizing key messages for each topic to ensure clarity and engagement
For more details on the scope of work, please see the [Terms of Reference for Consultancy on Donor Briefing Notes (TOR)].

UNICEF’s Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
UNICEF is dedicated to fostering diversity and inclusion within its workforce. We encourage all candidates to apply, regardless of gender, nationality, religious or ethnic background, and especially persons with disabilities. To create a more inclusive workplace, UNICEF provides various benefits, including paid parental leave, breastfeeding breaks, and reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities. We actively promote the use of flexible working arrangements.
Support for Persons with Disabilities
In line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), individuals with disabilities are defined as those with long-term physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory impairments. These impairments may limit their ability to fully participate in society without facing barriers. UNICEF’s Disability Inclusion Policy and Strategy (2022-2030) aims to increase the employment of individuals with disabilities by 2030. We provide reasonable accommodations for job-related support needs and have established a Global Accessibility Helpdesk to enhance both physical and digital accessibility.
If you are an applicant with a disability requiring assistance with the online application process, please reach out through the accessibility email link on the UNICEF Careers webpage.
Zero Tolerance Policy
UNICEF has a strict policy against hiring individuals who are married to minors (persons under 18). We uphold a zero-tolerance policy towards any behavior that contradicts the values of the United Nations and UNICEF. This includes, but is not limited to, sexual exploitation, sexual harassment, abuse of authority, and discrimination based on gender, nationality, age, race, sexual orientation, religion, or disability. UNICEF is committed to protecting the rights and welfare of all children. Therefore, all selected candidates will undergo thorough reference and background checks and are expected to adhere to our ethical standards. These checks will verify academic credentials and employment history, and candidates with disabilities may need to submit additional confidential documentation related to their disability.
Important Notes
- Only candidates who are shortlisted will be contacted for the next steps in the selection process.
- Individuals engaged through a consultancy or individual contract are not classified as “staff members” under the United Nations and UNICEF regulations. Consequently, they are not eligible for benefits such as leave entitlements or medical insurance. Their conditions of service will be determined by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for Consultants and Individual Contractors. It is their responsibility to manage their tax obligations per local laws.
- Selected candidates are responsible for ensuring that their visa (if applicable) and health insurance are valid for the duration of the contract. Candidates must also confirm their fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine prior to starting their assignment. This vaccination requirement does not apply to consultants working remotely or those who do not visit UNICEF facilities or interact with communities during their contracts.
