About the Role
Good Neighbors International (GNI), an NGO operating in Cameroon, is seeking a dynamic and skilled Communications Officer to lead and enhance its communication strategies. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving visibility, managing external and internal communications, and ensuring the organization’s initiatives are effectively represented across multiple channels.
This role will focus on projects such as the PULCCA Project and the Korean Embassy Grant Project in the Far North region.
Key Responsibilities
Brand Development and Visibility
- Build and promote the Good Neighbors Cameroon brand, with a particular focus on key projects.
- Enhance the organization’s visibility through strategic communication campaigns.
- Develop and implement communication plans to increase public awareness and engagement.
Content Creation and Media Management
- Produce high-quality materials, including documentaries, fact sheets, photographs, case studies, press releases, and social media posts, showcasing the organization’s impact.
- Collaborate with the fundraising team to update and maintain the website and social media platforms with engaging and consistent content.
- Write, edit, and distribute content across all communication channels, ensuring alignment with organizational messaging.
Public and Media Relations
- Maintain relationships with media organizations and key contacts to secure positive coverage.
- Collaborate with external partners to prepare for media interviews, public events, and other forums that enhance project visibility.
- Develop advocacy materials to support policy change and raise awareness of key humanitarian and development issues.
Stakeholder Engagement and Advocacy
- Build and sustain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including partners, donors, and the media.
- Design sensitization and visibility materials for advocacy efforts in collaboration with external resource persons.
Budget and Reporting
- Integrate communication needs into project proposals and activity budgets.
- Ensure the efficient allocation and expenditure of the communication budget to achieve strategic goals.
Qualifications and Skills
Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
Professional Experience:
- 2–3 years of experience in communications, preferably within an NGO.
- Proven ability to create and execute effective communication strategies.
- Experience in social media management and analytics.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in graphic design tools and video editing software.
- Expertise in photography, videography, and editing.
- Strong knowledge of digital and traditional media platforms.
- Mastery of content creation, including press releases and corporate communications.
Personal Attributes:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong networking abilities to foster and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
