Retail Channel Manager – Role Overview

As a Retail Channel Manager, you will lead the development and management of DHL’s retail network—both DHL-owned service points and retail partners (third-party representatives). This channel plays a crucial role in expanding our brand footprint, boosting cash-based revenue, and offering more accessible services to customers.

This role focuses on driving growth, improving operational performance, and enhancing customer experience through strategic partnerships and effective retail execution.

Key Responsibilities

1. External Retail Network Management

  • Identify, recruit, and manage new retail partnerships.

  • Educate partners on DHL products and services to drive customer engagement.

  • Launch and manage marketing campaigns and promotions to increase volume.

  • Conduct regular site visits to ensure brand compliance, service quality, and strong partner relations.

  • Enforce adherence to DHL’s policies, procedures, and commercial standards.

2. Internal Coordination

  • Collaborate with Customer Service, Operations, and Finance to address partner concerns and improve performance.

  • Ensure all retail locations comply with operational standards through routine audits.

  • Analyze business performance and identify new growth opportunities.

  • Implement innovative strategies and tech-based solutions to improve efficiency across the retail channel.

Market Intelligence & Strategy

  • Map competitor locations and benchmark against DHL outlets.

  • Research retail trends, customer behavior, and market segmentation (formal vs. informal retail).

  • Identify high-potential retail hotspots for strategic expansion.

  • Monitor competitor products, services, and promotions.

  • Design and execute mystery shopper programs to evaluate performance.

Key Deliverables

  • Comprehensive mapping of DHL vs. competitor retail presence and offerings.

  • Data-driven location strategy for retail outlet expansion.

  • Targeted list of potential retail partners.

  • Insights into service levels from competitors through performance evaluations.

Retail Team & Partner Management

  • Ensure optimal staffing levels based on hours, demand, and compliance.

  • Recruit, train, and lead retail staff and support partner employees.

  • Monitor performance using KPI metrics and improve customer service standards.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with all partners.

Key Deliverables

  • High-performing and fully staffed outlets.

  • Clear recruitment standards and training programs.

  • Achieving defined retail KPIs.

  • Strong partner engagement and brand representation.

Marketing & Brand Management

  • Oversee advertising opportunities in retail.

  • Create and propose effective campaigns and promotions in coordination with Marketing.

  • Ensure consistent branding and marketing materials across all outlets.

  • Conduct quarterly audits to maintain visual standards and prevent brand dilution.

Key Deliverables

  • Branding compliance across all locations.

  • Timely, effective promotional rollouts.

  • Up-to-date marketing materials that reflect brand quality.

  • Clear brand presence and positioning in the retail space.

Candidate Profile

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Sales, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in retail or logistics.

Key Traits

  • Customer-centric mindset with a passion for service.

  • Highly driven, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.

  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.

  • Proven analytical abilities and decision-making skills.

  • Capable of managing operations and teams remotely.

  • Experience in retail management or within DHL is highly valued.
