Primary Objective and Responsibilities
- Directly report to the Project Manager.
- Assigned to work in Bamenda and Buea.
- Employed under a Fixed-Term contract until December 2024.
- Expected to be available starting April 2024.
In addition,
- Deliver specialized services and personalized psychological assistance to individuals grappling with moderate to severe mental and/or emotional disorders across various intervention domains.
- Offer technical support to protection staff to ensure the effective implementation of psychosocial support (PSS) activities tailored for both children and adults.
Tasks:
- Assisting Cases with Mental or Emotional Disorders:
- Provide support to individuals involved in protection cases with identified mental or emotional disorders, whether referred internally or externally.
- Perform thorough needs assessments on a case-by-case basis to diagnose psychological disorders and determine appropriate treatment and therapy options.
- Developing Individual Assistance Plans:
- Create tailored assistance plans for each individual, considering their specific needs and circumstances.
- Conduct psychological counseling sessions using a variety of techniques suited to the individual’s requirements.
Documentation and Training:
- Documenting Progress and Providing Counseling:
- Maintain detailed records of progress for each case while strictly adhering to confidentiality and consent protocols.
- Conduct both group and individual counseling sessions as required, addressing identified needs effectively.
- Facilitating Trainings and Strengthening Support:
- Organize internal training sessions for protection staff on delivering basic psychosocial counseling within the scope of case management.
- Conduct trainings for both staff and communities on psychosocial first aid (PFA), enhancing community-based psychosocial support and peer group activities.
Collaboration and Support:
- Collaborating with Technical Staff:
- Work closely with technical staff, including the Protection Coordinator and Protection Officer, to develop the project’s psychosocial support (PSS) component effectively.
- Providing Coaching and Support:
- Offer guidance and support to field staff in implementing structured PSS activities, ensuring adherence to key protection principles throughout.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Ensuring Compliance and Supportive Reporting:
- Adhere to key protection principles such as non-discrimination, confidentiality, and accountability in all tasks.
- Assist the Protection Coordinator in developing or updating protection tools and training materials as per project requirements.
- Provide insights on protection-related issues for donor reports under the guidance of Project Manager/Programme Manager/Head of Base.
- Building Collaborative Relationships:
- Establish and nurture collaborative relationships with relevant partners and stakeholders involved in project areas to ensure effective coordination and support.
Educational and Professional Requirements:
- University Degree in Psychology:
- Possess a university degree in psychology to fulfill the educational requirement for the role.
- Humanitarian Training and Competencies:
- Training in humanitarian protection topics such as community-based protection, survivor-centered case management, PSEA, GBV, and child protection will be advantageous for the position.
Work Experience:
- Minimum 3 Years Humanitarian Experience Required
- At least three years of prior experience within a humanitarian setting is essential, preferably within an association, NGO, or INGO. Additionally, a minimum of one year of on-the-ground involvement in crisis contexts within the NW or SW regions is mandatory.
- Demonstrated Social Work Experience Needed
- Proven track record of social work in contexts similar to the one described is necessary. Candidates should showcase their ability to navigate complex social environments effectively.
IT Skills: Advanced Proficiency in
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, is required for this position.
- Web-Based Tools and Platforms
- Advanced familiarity with mainstream web browsers such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Mozilla Firefox is expected. Additionally, experience with web-based chat and conferencing tools/platforms like Skype, Teams, Zoom, and WebEx is highly advantageous. Familiarity with Web 2.0 tools, including cloud storage and webmail, is also beneficial.
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in Formal English Necessary
- Candidates must demonstrate fluency in both written and oral formal English, along with strong analytical and reporting skills.
- Proficiency in Pidgin English Required
- Fluency in Pidgin English is essential for effective communication in certain contexts.
