For Every Child, Protection

UNICEF in Cameroon:

A Commitment to Women and Children Since 1975 UNICEF has been working in Cameroon since 1975, ensuring that women and children fully exercise their rights to development, as guaranteed by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. By offering financial and technical support, UNICEF collaborates with Cameroon across seven critical sectors: Health, HIV/AIDS, Water-Sanitation-Hygiene (WASH), Nutrition, Education, Child Protection, and Social Inclusion.

UNICEF’s primary focus is on children, especially the most vulnerable and marginalized families. According to UN data, Cameroon’s population in 2020 was estimated at 26,545,863 people, with a large percentage being youth, which drives a high demand for social and economic support. However, rural areas often face significant challenges, including limited access to basic social services and the effects of climate change, which have led to increased poverty and severe child deprivation.

The challenges are immense, but not impossible to overcome. Achieving sustainable change requires the collective efforts of all stakeholders, both within and beyond Cameroon. This includes women, men, youth, children, government officials, technical and financial partners, donors, civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians, and communities.

We invite everyone to join this essential mission to tackle the pressing issues facing Cameroon. Together, we can work toward a better future for Cameroon, a country that embodies both the challenges and hopes of Africa.
