Job Purpose
The primary objective of this position is to operate DRC vehicles, ensuring the safety of staff, proper care of the assigned vehicle, and strict adherence to DRC driving regulations as well as the traffic laws of the Republic of Cameroon. Under the direct supervision of the Supply Chain Team Leader in Buea, the driver will support the movement of staff and partners, as well as the transportation of materials and supplies within the project implementation area.
Key Responsibilities
A) Driving
- Safely operate assigned vehicles, transporting authorized DRC staff on official duties and goods to designated locations.
- Adjust driving speed based on road conditions, exercising extra caution in poor weather or road conditions.
- Ensure the vehicle is equipped with all mandatory documents (e.g., registration certificate, insurance, carte rose, etc.).
- Complete vehicle logbooks accurately and obtain passenger signatures for each trip.
- Ensure a discharge of responsibility is signed for any non-DRC passengers traveling in the vehicle.
B) Vehicle Maintenance
- Conduct daily checks on vehicle components such as engine oil, brake fluid, tire pressure, wiper fluid, and radiator fluid.
- Complete daily check sheets and report any issues encountered.
- Notify the manager of any vehicle damage, required repairs, or maintenance.
- Carry out minor repairs to ensure the vehicle operates efficiently.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle, both inside and out, on a regular basis.
- Ensure the vehicle is fully equipped with necessary tools and has an up-to-date first aid kit.
- Perform monthly inventory checks of tools, equipment, and the first aid kit.
C) Loading and Unloading
- Load and unload the vehicle safely, ensuring that all cargo is properly secured for transport.
- Comply with vehicle weight limits and the authorized number of passengers.
D) Safety and Security
- Ensure the safety and security of passengers and cargo during transportation.
- Report any incidents or road issues to the safety manager immediately.
- Maintain the vehicle with at least half a tank of fuel and refuel when necessary.
- Ensure all passengers are wearing seat belts.
- Confirm that the vehicle is properly marked with necessary stickers (e.g., DRC, no weapons) and equipped with safety signaling tools (e.g., hazard triangle, fluorescent safety vest).
- Adhere to DRC’s guidelines during road checks or roadblocks, particularly in high-security areas.
- Uphold DRC’s Code of Conduct, ensuring a professional and respectful representation of the organization.
- Strictly follow DRC’s and national driving rules and regulations.
Note: The responsibilities outlined above are not exhaustive and may be adjusted based on operational needs while remaining aligned with the primary objectives of the role.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license (category D).
- Minimum of First School Leaving Certificate, with proficiency in reading and writing English.
- Fluency in local languages (e.g., Pidgin) is preferred.
- At least 6 years of proven driving experience (work contracts or attestations required).
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience driving for an international non-governmental organization (INGO) (work contracts or attestations required).
- Experience with 4×4 vehicles (e.g., Toyota Hardtop, Pickup).
- Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repairs.
- Motorcycle license is an added advantage.
- Ability to perform under pressure and maintain a calm, cooperative attitude.
- Familiarity with local areas, particularly in challenging security environments.
- Security and safety training is a plus.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Good knowledge of the Southwest and Northwest Regions of Cameroon.
- Self-motivated, with integrity and the ability to work under pressure.
- Willingness to work outside normal working hours.
- Strong team spirit and effective communication skills.

- All equipment issued for the project must be returned to DRC at the end of the contract or upon request.
